How can we make sense of Brexit?

Much of the current media coverage on Brexit is, of course, about what the future may hold. But perhaps we can better equip ourselves to prepare for it if we take a step back and try to understand why the majority voted to leave?

There is more to the EU referendum result than racism, hate and government in-fighting. Many, including author Lisa McKenzie, argue that people voted to leave from a position of anger and desperation: "some people in the UK are suffering so badly they don’t care what happens next – they just want something to change."

The books below offer some explanation for the desperation and disenfranchisement that may have shaped voting decisions, and hopefully some answers.
